30 Miles for CF June 9, 2018
This is why Jaime strides, what’s your reason?
Why I stride for my friends with Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life threatening disease which provides no breaks or vacations, it is continuous and unforgiving if ignored. Thanks to the previous support, we have new medications and treatments that will slow the progression of the CF. My friends and families sacrifice hours every day in order to achieve this. The fight is not over until we have a cure. This year marks the 30 year anniversary of Great Strides. I will walk 30-miles in tribute to the daily fight my friends and their families endure battling CF. Will you join me and support our CF friends?
This is why I stride, what’s your reason?
Very simple, two names: Adeline and Oliver. Lori and I spend hours a day fighting to give our kids a “normal” life but when you have kids with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), your perspective on what “normal” is changes. Our “normal” consists of pancreatic enzymes before every meal (Miss A – 4+ a day, Ollie – 10-12 per day), two breathing/percussion treatments per day when they are healthy (4x’s a day when they catch a bug), and missing family functions because someone attending is sick. Our “normal” consists of MSU CF Clinic visits (Miss A – 1x every 3 months, Ollie – 1x every month) which last 1.5-3 hours. Our “normal” consists of Miss A being hospitalized for 9 days because of a bacterial infection. So yes we live a “normal” life, it’s just a little different than yours. In honor of the 30th anniversary of Great Strides, I will walk/run 30 miles on June 9th for my amazing kids. I will struggle, I will feel pain and I will probably shed some tears, but I will fight. I will fight because my kids fight everyday against this progressive disease and as our sign says “In this house….we don’t go down without a fight!”
